Stomal Therapy Nurses

A Stomal Therapy Nurse (STN) can assist with advice and management of any stoma. It is recommended that ostomates should have their stoma reviewed with a STN every 12 months, however if a stoma is sore, doesn’t look normal, the skin is itchy then members are advised to see their STN.

A Stomal Therapy Nurse may provide:

  • Expert care and advice to ostomates on all aspects of stoma and fistula management
  • Pre-operative and post-operative counselling for ostomates with a stoma
  • Ongoing long term education and review
  • Assistance and support for ostomates that have long term drain tubes/fistulae
  • Advice on bowel health

If an Ostomate wishes to change products WBOA advises them to discuss the change with a STN to ensure that they are getting the best product for their stoma(s).
